If so (for the first part "scary things"), then please check out my animatic right here in my journal, yo! Right below! C: Story behind it: we had to choose a random scene from a story we made for our Visual Development course at Ringling, and so my story "The Mimic" is about an explorer coming back from a long expedition in Antarctica to visit his little sister and her fiance. But there is something pretty uncool about him that they can't put a finger on. Till it's too late, of course. c:
Speaking of this animatic... Do you guys love concept art? Do you guys love beautiful art in general? Animation and cartoons and exaggerated styles of varying kinds? Do you guys love the inspiration it fills you with, all the way to the very top o' your artloving soul?

Okay, so I got a message from Fuzzy exclaiming that I should log on immediately on deviantart and check your journal- she was practically screaming in glee :'D
I went over and I saw your thing AND NOW I CAN SEE WHY
HOLY FRIG- first of all, CONGRATULATIONS ON THE GLORIOUS ANIMATIC.
Second of all dear lord- you know, even though you draw and write quite the gruesome scenes, it's very odd to see a first and foremost horror story from you, somehow? I know you have quite some horror stories, but this felt different somehow, but in a REALLY good way too! I love how you still have some of your zanyness in there, especially your expressions, BUT HOLY COW THAT WAS TERRIFYING.
It's not easy to pull off horror when it's animated, because you need to know just the right amount of timing that will really drive the effect through. And I think you nailed the timing perfectly. You know how fast an action needs to be, and when it should take its time. .u.
But not just actions, but also the storytelling! I love how you've managed to establish the characters' personalities without giving us a whole exposition speech, and I really like how while we get the general idea, there's still a few details you can catch on a second view: Like the things happening in the background while Margie is ranting, the shadows, the voices...
Also your camera angles. Just the camera angles.
ALSO YOU GOTTA TELL RYAN AND STEPH THAT THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB. I LOVED THE VOICES SO MUCH. Especially Margie oh my gosh, I love her to bits. :'D
And the choice of sound effects is delightfully horrifying, so kudos on those too. ;u;
...I think basically I love everything about the animatic but I figured I should let you know what I loved exactly. >u>"
Anyhoo, congrats, hope to see the whole thing soon, it looks brilliant! ;u;
I love the movements and expression of the characters, and the lighting for the fire is just gorgeous. And I love the sister, I can't wait to see what she looks like in the final product.
I thought the voice actors for the sister and brother were really spot on, though I do think that Dave's voice actor was a little flat with the performance. It's fantastic, though, and I can't wait to see the finished product. Although this animatic is a beautiful piece of artwork in and of itself!
It was a good plug, but you're going to need some sophisticated GCI automation or a whole bunch of 'tweeners to get it moving smoothly. Obvious I [Mr a*] almost just about alone in our family when it comes to The Dark Side. I've had to keep a separate folder for it. Mrs a* does appear therein as Lady Macbeth and about four different Poe heroines and three Iain M. Banks ones as well. Apart from the 'over 18' only section the strongest thing in there is probably this !
It is an animatic, not an animation. Animatics are moving storyboards done for visual development purposes - specially when it comes to storytelling in entertainment media. And I am sorry, but self-promoting yourself on other people's pieces and personal works is a pretty awkward move. It's a nice piece, but not my cup o' tea.
The last guy called it 'advertising' when I compared his work [favourably] to that of well known artists outside dA whose work is not for sale [he should be lucky enough to get a chance to buy any!]. I decided that I had been insulted, insulted him back and was promptly blocked. Why not cut out the middle man and block me now?
Alrighty. Then just a word of advise: folks tend to not enjoy having their works compared to others, specifically in a self-promotional kind of way on their personal posts and works. I highly suggest sending messages through the note system and whatnot.
People have been free to admonish me and give me advice without being blocked and usually without a trace of acrimony. I simply report as spam all comments to which I cannot reply because I've just been blocked. Blocking people who have tried to engage you in a debate is cowardice.
Such an awesome animatic! I got scared. quite a lot actually, I'm not too proud to say. I looooved little sis chattering and the whole story is just awesome. If I had any money I pledge it for the Ringling project right now, but unfortunately I'm a completely broke jobless person living with her parents.
That was literally the coolest video I have seen in a VERY long time. Like I have a hard time being scared by horror stuff because I've become sort of jaded to it from watching horror movies all of the time, but THAT- that freaked the hell out of me and I thank you for it! It was brilliantly done and you should feel very very proud of yourself! Gah I gotta watch it a hundred more times I absolutely love it! <333333
okay your video literally made me jump a couple times. holy crap that was genius andi. your improvement is just WOW i mean you have grown so much since I first found you and every day you continue to blow my mind with your brilliant creations and your unique style and e u g h just absolutely fantastic *sheds a tear* you are growin up so fast ; u ;
also i see you reading the art of brom over there ehuhue brom is so fucking fantastic
AHHHHH "The Mimic" IS AMAZING THAT WOMAN'S LITTLE SOUTHERN ACCENT WAS PERFECT. I'll be sure to advertise the Kickstarter to everyone I can for the last 5 days! I'll chip in too if I can! Good luck, friend!
I've gone in here QUITE a few times today, just... Rewatching that. Andi, that little animatic is horrifying, expressive, a beautiful preview of a project I sure would hope to see in a completed state one day. But man- that was... God it's just so YOU, the characters and their personalities we just got a brief preview of are just so from YOU, I love spunky little Margie and oh man oh man!! I'm sorry I'm being rather incoherent but I'm so excited, it was so thrilling to watch and THE POSES AND VISUALS OF THE SHADOW IN THE BACKGROUND SPOKE SO LOUD The music, voice acting and sound effects are so very well made, so a REAL big round of applause to your voice actors.
Man, man, I'm just... I'm blown away. Seeing the fruits of your work after you entered Ringling has been a treat each and every time but man, this is the pinnacle so far. ALSO IF I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO PAY I could maybe donate to the book, I've just always been horribly confused with stuff like this (also with me still being HOPELESS with paypal)
Oh my gosh that was gorgeous! The voice acting was humorous to not make the whole concept too disturbing, but it was still pretty scary! The black was a bit hard to follow, but hey, shadows aren't the easiest things to depict various things out of, so I'm not complaining. I'd love to see more of your little animatics!
